After last week’s blog about my five most anticipated games of the year, I thought it would be fun to shift focus to the big screen. Movies are a huge source of inspiration for me, whether I’m going to the cinema to relax or to spark new ideas for my own stories.
So, without further ado, here are the five movies I’m most excited to watch this year—and who knows, one of these might just shape my next creative project!
Zootropolis 2
After thoroughly enjoying the first Zootropolis movie, it felt inevitable that a sequel would come along—and this year, it’s finally happening!
The concept remains the same, with Judy solving a new mystery alongside Nick. While this familiar formula worked brilliantly in the first film, it also presents a challenge for the sequel. Can they manage to keep the story fresh and engaging, while delivering the same fun and charm that made the original such a hit?
I’m hopeful that Zootropolis 2 will rise to the occasion and once again deliver a movie that’s as entertaining as it is memorable. Fingers crossed!
Now You See Me 3
What I said about Zootropolis 2 also applies here: same concept, mostly the same cast, but the big question is—can they create a story that feels fresh and exciting?
I thoroughly enjoyed Now You See Me 1 & 2. They’re the kind of movies I can throw on anytime and have a great time watching. That said, the stage is set for the third installment to truly stand out, rather than feeling like a copy-paste sequel.
To make Now You See Me 3 unforgettable, it needs to be more mysterious, deliver bigger shocks, and perhaps take a slightly different narrative approach—while still staying true to the magic and heist concept that fans love. If they can pull that off, this could easily be one of my favorites of the year!
Superman
Even though I tend to prefer Marvel movies over DC, Superman still makes my list this year—and James Gunn is the reason why. With Gunn now at the helm of DC and directing this film, I genuinely believe he has the talent to elevate DC movies to new heights.
Superman is a superhero that everyone knows, even those who aren’t big superhero fans like I am. Replacing Henry Cavill as the face of Superman is no small task, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s James Gunn.
This movie feels like a make-or-break moment for DC, and I’m cautiously optimistic. Let’s hope Gunn can deliver a Superman film that’s nothing short of super!
Jurassic World: Rebirth
I still remember the excitement of watching the very first Jurassic Park movie, and I’m pleasantly surprised that the franchise is still going strong. For me, these movies fall into the category of easy and fun entertainment. Dinosaurs are universally fascinating, though everyone has their own unique connection to the concept.
What gives me extra hope for this movie is that David Koepp, who co-wrote the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, has written the story for Jurassic World: Rebirth. Knowing his involvement makes me confident that this film will honor the legacy of the series.
In my opinion, the original Jurassic Park is still the best, but here’s hoping Rebirth will capture some of that same magic and deliver another thrilling adventure.
Captain America: Brave New World
I could’ve easily filled this list with upcoming Marvel movies, but I decided to choose just one to keep things from being too predictable. Shoutout to Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which I’m also excited about. However, for this list, I’ve gone with Captain America: Brave New World.
This is the first Marvel movie releasing in 2025, and I believe it will set the tone for what we can expect from the MCU this year—and beyond. In recent years, Marvel movies have received mixed reviews, with more misses than hits, unfortunately. But I think this film has the potential to tip the scales back in Marvel’s favor.
We’re in for a good story, with the added excitement of Red Hulk making an appearance. I also suspect the movie has some surprises up its sleeve that haven’t been revealed in the trailers—something that will reignite fans’ enthusiasm.
2025 is going to be a critical year for Marvel, and they need to kick things off on the right foot. That’s why I’m especially excited for Captain America: Brave New World—it has all the makings of a strong start!
This completes my top 5 movies that I’m looking forward to. What do you think of my list?
